Options for the journey between Tetouan and Tangier

The journey is between 1 and 2 hours, depending on the route: the longer one, via the Mediterranean coast passing through coastal resorts and then- the highlight- through some beautiful wild scenery in the vicinity of Ceuta, is the more interesting.

Tangier

The main entry point for ferries arriving from Spain, Tangier is a vibrant city with tremendous history: one of the oldest cities in North Africa, it has seen a number of European powers come and go. Tangier is an interesting city destination thanks to an eclectic mix of historic legacies and major improvements in infrastructure since the turn of the century.

Chefchaouen

This mountain town exudes enormous charm: it is clean, safe, relaxed and highly photogenic - the charming cobbled streets, the flower-filled squares, its breathtaking mountain backdrop, with peaks in the area rising to over 2,000 metres, soaring above the town at 660 metres, combine to produce a wonderful spectacle.

Part of its charm stems from its relative isolation, deep in the Rif mountains. It can be approached from the Mediterranean coast to the north at Tangier (2 hours), the Atlantic coast to the west or from Fez or Meknes to the south (3 hours).

Tetouan

The city of Tetouan (1 hour north of Chefchaouen, a few kilometres from the Mediterranean Sea) offers a mix of sights unique in Morocco: splendid medina (a World Heritage Site), fine Spanish architecture with features redolent of the Alhambra and orchards.
