RIAD AL BARTAL | FEZ

Riad Al Bartal is well established, very comfortable, homely riad with a delightful atmosphere, created by the excellent hosts. Rooms are tastefully decorated in Moroccan style and are arranged around a large, peaceful plant filled courtyard with a slide-over roof allowing use of patio in all weathers. The roof terrace has fantastic panoramic views of the medina. Family options include a suite with 2 bedrooms and bedrooms which may take a third person.

Accommodation: There are 7 suites and bedrooms in total. The suites and bedrooms are beautifully furnished with tiled en-suite bathrooms, some with copper baths, air conditioning and heating (a stove or fire), beautiful plasterwork and huge original doors. There are 4 suites, sleeping 2 or 3 people and 3 bedrooms, 1 with mezzanine floor, with twin or double beds.

Location: On a quiet street in the Ziat area of the medina, very close to the gate through the town walls and extremely easy to find, it is 5 minutes’ walk south east from the Batha Museum, L’Istiqlal square and post office, which are on the west side of the medina.  Also 5 minutes’ walk from the main shopping streets which lead you downhill into the heart of the historic Fez medina, and 10 minutes’ walk from many of the main attractions.

Services and other points to note: The riad is very popular so advance booking is advised, and a 2 night stay is the Minimum. The Moroccan living room has a very good library. The riad is accessible by car - vehicles are safely parked in a garage with a caretaker. World music from the owners’ extensive collection will often be heard downstairs.

Meals: Breakfast is included. Myriem, the excellent local cook, prepares delicious Moroccan specialities at guests' request. Candlelit dinners are served to you, often with the owners' family, in the comfortable living room or in the courtyard or on the terrace.

Staff: Mireille and Christian Laroche, the charming and gracious French owners, are always ready and willing to organise outings; they know the area very well, being one of the earliest established riads.
