RYAD KSAR MALAL | ZAGORA

The friendly staff of this simple little guest house, set in a tranquil palmery off the main tourist trail, 17 km north of Zagora, will give you a genuine insight into all aspects of life in a small village, including good Moroccan food. Ryad Ksar Mallal is constructed of local materials and from its large terrace you can enjoy views of the Draa oasis and the mountains beyond. Its Moroccan owners actively promote eco-tourism.

Accommodation: There are 7 rooms of which all except one have en suite shower rooms. The rooms are simple and decorated in traditional Berber style with features such as woven bamboo ceilings, tadelakt bathrooms, furniture and mirrors with elegant wrought-iron frames made by local craftsmen. There is also the possibility of sleeping under the stars on roof terrace. There is a Berber Salon with a TV.

Location: Situated 17 km north of Zagora, 40 km from the Tinfou dunes and 100 km from the larger dunes near M'hamid. It is in the Draa valley and is a good stopping of point between Ouarzazate and M’Hamid.  

Services and other points to note: Bike rental nearby. The owners offer local visits and experiences such as cookery lessons and henna tattooing.

Meals: Breakfast is included. Tasty, reasonably priced traditional Moroccan food.
