SAWADI | SKOURA

Set deep in a tranquil palmery with a mixed orchard of exotic trees and superb views of the oasis and the mountains beyond, this walled kasbah-style hamlet consisting of 15 rooms, most of which are bungalows, built in traditional style and materials, is highly respectful of environmental concerns. Sawadi provides a great base for the large number of local sites and is ideal for families- interconnecting rooms, secure enclosed space, a large pool, farm animals and adventure playground. 

Accommodation: Set in the spacious grounds of this organically managed small farm, Sawadi consists of several mini-kasbahs: most are de luxe rooms and there are a few de luxe suites. The traditional building materials allow rooms to be cool in summer but warm in winter, and some rooms have fireplaces. Most of the kasbahs have 2 bedrooms each (one double, one twin), which can be let separately and one is designed for 6 or 7 people.

Location: Situated deep in the beautiful unspoilt Skoura oasis and accessed by a few kms of well marked tracks. Sawadi is located on the southern side of the High Atlas Mountains: 5 hours’ drive from Marrakech, 5 hours from Taroudant and 50 minutes from Ouarzazate (30 km). 

Services and other points to note: Informal cookery lessons are on offer to give guests the opportunity to learn how to cook various traditional dishes. Small hammam (treatments and massage on request). Donkeys and other farm animals for children to make friends with. A variety of excursions can be arranged on request. The environmentally friendly approach includes many features such as a large non-chlorinated pool, waste water treatment and water conservation.There is a large room (8.5 m x 7.5 m), ideal for parties, yoga or meetings; it can accommodate groups of up to 40 people and is made all the more attractive as a result of an adjacent 40 sq.m. terrace which overlooks the olive grove and, above the room, a larger terrace (80 sq. m) enjoying views of the Atlas Mountains.

Meals: Breakfast and evening meal is included. High quality Moroccan inspired cuisine, using a range of products produced on the farm. Food is served in the restaurant overlooking the swimming pool or on the terrace by the swimming pool.

Staff: The hospitable resident owner, Phillipe, and his wife, Catherine, who, as a lecturer on sustainability, practises what she preaches, and his charming local staff ensure a very happy stay.
