KASBAH ELLOUZE | AIT BENHADDOU

A very atmospheric building in a traditional kasbah hamlet which has been a famous backdrop for many films, Kasbah Ellouze enjoys a remote feel but is only 3 kms from the beautiful World Heritage Site of Ait Benhaddou. Recently restored using traditional materials and renowned for good food, the kasbah offers 13 comfortable rooms of various sizes and boasts lovely views from terraces overlooking gardens and orchards and the option of rides on their own camels.

Kasbah Ellouze - Courtyard

Accommodation: There are 13 rooms, all simply furnished and arranged over 3 floors. This includes: 9 en suite rooms with air conditioning and heating, 7 double rooms including 2 with an option of an extra bed; 2 rooms with 3 single beds; 2 suites, one with 1 extra bed, the other with 2 extra beds in an adjoining room. There are 3 twin rooms without air conditioning in the towers of the kasbah, sharing shower and separate toilet in the 4th tower but with the bonus of an adjacent terrace.

Location: An ideal stop near Ouarzazate which is roughly midway between the Sahara and Marrakech or Taroudant. Set in an authentic village with superb views of the Atlas Mountains and the adjacent Kasbah Glaoui

Services and other points to note: The kasbah has a swimming pool (6.5m x 5m) heated from February to November. Ait Benhaddou, a World Heritage site, is the fortified, beautiful unspoilt small village on the old camel trading route from Africa to Morocco and Europe and set for numerous films, including Lawrence of Arabia, Jesus of Nazareth and Gladiator. This area is a perfect place to enjoy nature: from the nesting storks on the adjacent kasbah to exploring local caves dwellings or visiting the typical ancient villages. Hire one of the kasbah’s camels, Ali, Charlie or Maryline, or buy a day pass to a swimming pool in Ait Benhaddou 3 km away.

Meals: Prices include breakfast and evening meal cooked by Michel, a trained French chef and his Moroccan assistants, who creates Moroccan style cuisine with some European influence.

Staff: Wonderful staff and hospitable owners, Colette, and her chef husband, Michel, greet and feed you.
